He demonstrated that people who appeared to be mentally ill, as well as children and 'the common man' (meaning people of average intelligence with no particular training in the arts), could all be very creative, given the right conditions and circumstances. In his own work he often drew on the kind of processes used by such people, for example graffiti, frottage (a process that involves rubbing a design from one surface to another), flattened perspective and obsessively repeated mark-making.","physicalDescription":"Lithograph on Auvergne paper of a house between trees, a shepherd with cow or sheep in forground","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Dubuffet, Jean","id":"A2128"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Mourlot, Fernand","id":"A6766"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Lithography","id":"AAT53271"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Lithograph on paper","categories":[],"styles":[{"text":"art brut","id":"x35364"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AM2954","2011EU9515"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"MP","shelf":"58","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1944","earliest":"1944-01-01","latest":"1944-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"1945","earliest":"1945-01-01","latest":"1945-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"27.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"printed surface","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"22.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"printed surface","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"33.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"25.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"j Dubuffet","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"1) Signature","note":"1) Signature"}],"objectHistory":"NB.
