The printing areas are impregnated with grease while the blank ones are moistened. When greasy ink is applied to the whole printing surface it clings to the greasy areas, but is repelled by the wet ones. The ink is transferred from the printing surface to the paper by pressure. Honoré Daumier was one of lithography's most brilliant and prolific exponents. He produced over 4,000 lithographs in his 40-year career.","physicalDescription":"Chalk lithographic print with scraped highlights on paper","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Honore Daumier","id":"A3169"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[{"text":"etching","id":"AAT53241"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Chalk lithograph with scraped highlights on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Satire","id":"THES250449"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AM0361"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"ES","shelf":"108","box":"E"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"France","id":"x28849"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1840","earliest":"1840-01-01","latest":"1840-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"24.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"21.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Lithograph by Honore Daumier: eh bien, excusez","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Taken from Departmental Circulation Register 1962"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"bread","id":"x33275"},{"text":"bakery","id":"AAT5291"},{"text":"baker","id":"AAT136385"},{"text":"scales (weighing devices)","id":"AAT196293"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["CIRC.125-1962"],"accessionNumberNum":"125","accessionNumberPrefix":"CIRC","accessionYear":1962,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-05-02","recordCreationDate":"2002-11-28","availableToBook":false}}
