McKnight Kauffer: The Artist in Advertising' (Rizzoli Electa, 2020), p. 32-3:\r\n\r\n'In June 1915, a few months after these posters went on display on the buses and trams of London, the Vorticist group's first exhibition opened at the Doré Galleries. In the exhibition's catalog Wyndham Lewis imagined a world in which the urban environment was dominated by abstraction....Neither 'In Watford' nor 'Oxhey Woods' [see E.4278-1915] employed the sort of abstraction that Lewis was calling for, a complex geometric interpretation of mechanical forms. Rather, both posters resorted to an elegant derivation of turn-of-the-century post-impressionism'."}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[{"text":"Watford","id":"x37553"}],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.4279-1915"],"accessionNumberNum":"4279","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":1915,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"V&A microfiche","id":"THES50288"},"number":"20/G12"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-24","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-30","availableToBook":false}}
