The saint is shown bearded standing under an embattled canopy wearing a robe and a cloak draped over his shoulders. He holds a closed book in his left hand and in his right hand, resting on his shoulder, he holds his emblem, two keys. \r\n\r\nSt Peter and St Paul are outstanding figures in the Christian Church. Both saints share a feast day.","physicalDescription":"The saint, wearing a bifid beard, stands under an embattled canopy. He wears a robe and a cloak draped over his shoulders. He holds a closed book in his left hand, and in his right hand, resting on his shoulder, he holds his emblem, two keys.\r\n\r\nThere are slight traces of green paint on the lower ground. The hair and beard of the saint have some gilding, but some of this looks modern, as does the light brown paint, especially on the upper background and on the keys. There is red on the folds of the cloak. Gesso knobs are missing from the background. \r\n\r\nThe back of the panel has been scooped out in the middle from top to bottom, presumably to lessen the weight, but in a manner reminiscent of a wood-carving technique. The bottom is cut away. There are two lead-plugged holes, one with the remains of latten wire.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"alabaster","id":"AAT11101"},{"text":"paint","id":"AAT15029"},{"text":"gilt","id":"x30367"}],"techniques":[{"text":"carving","id":"AAT53149"},{"text":"painting","id":"x30598"},{"text":"gilding","id":"AAT53789"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Carved, painted and gilt alabaster","categories":[{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[{"text":"Medieval","id":"AAT20756"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AH0738","2017JU1372"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES333290"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Panel","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1400","earliest":"1395-01-01","latest":"1404-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"A.84-1946","id":"O70292"},"association":"Set"}],"creditLine":"Given by Dr W.
