They were trials of patterns and stitches that had been copied from others, and records of particular effects achieved that could be recreated again. This sampler includes a range of repeating patterns, suitable for the decoration of linen. It is the earliest dated German sampler so far known.\r\n\r\nWhite linen embroidered with red, blue, green silks and white linen thread in cross-stitch, buttonhole-stitch, cut and drawn work, with needlepoint fillings. Geometrical and formal floral patterns. It is part of the collection of Elfi and Hans-Joachim Connemann, that was located and displayed at the Prinzenpalais in Celle from May 1991 until March 2013 as Deutsche Stickmuster-Museum.
