St John the Evangelist, a centurion and Longinus are shown on the right. \r\n\r\nThe panel has an embattled top and traces of colour remain.","physicalDescription":"The panel has an embattled top. The haloed and bearded Christ, wearing the torse and naked but for the loincloth, is on the cross in the centre of the panel, his head inclined to his right, his right foot is resting on his left. The figure of the Virgin Mary, wearing a belted gown and a cloak, is shown swooning, with her body bent at the knees, on the left of the panel. She is looking up at Christ, and supported round the waist by one of the Marys--probably Mary Magdalene--who wears a gown and cloak and also looks at Christ. The other Mary--probably Mary Cleophas--and St. John the Evangelist stand behind the Virgin on the left of the panel. On the right of the panel, facing to the right, stands the bearded figure of the centurion, wearing a hat with a turned-up brim and a belted gown with wide sleeves. He points back to Christ, a scroll curving up to the right from his hand and presumably previously inscribed 'Vere Filius Dei erat iste.' Behind the centurion on the right of the panel, wearing a rolled-brim cap and a short gown stands a figure, probably Longinus, holding a staff. Behind him is the top of a pointed basinet, representing a standing soldier. The battlementing is chipped. Traces of colour remain on the panel. There are slight traces of green on the ground at the bottom of the panel and red on the robes of the standing figures. The faces of the figures, including Christ, all appear to have been painted. The back of the panel bears three holes all filled with lead and with traces of latten wire.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"alabaster","id":"AAT11101"},{"text":"paint","id":"AAT15029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"carving","id":"AAT53149"},{"text":"painting","id":"x30598"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Carved and painted alabaster","categories":[{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[{"text":"Medieval","id":"AAT20756"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AH4662","2017KC4205","2018KV2508"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES333485"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Panel","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1400","earliest":"1395-01-01","latest":"1404-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Dr W.
