The piece was made in northern Europe. However, the ornament on the lid includes the coat of arms of the Molino family of Venice, and the decoration was probably executed in Syria. It seems that a member of the Molino family sent the ewer to Syria to be decorated in an Islamic style. It was then returned to Italy.","physicalDescription":"Ewer with the arms of Molino of Venice; brass engraved and damascened with silver and with filling of black lac, decoration probably done in Syria","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"brass (alloy)","id":"AAT10946"},{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"engraving (incising)","id":"AAT53829"},{"text":"damascened","id":"AAT54019"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Brass, engraved and damascened with silver and with filling of black lac","categories":[{"text":"Images Online","id":"THES48937"}],"styles":[{"text":"Veneto-Saracenic","id":"x35138"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2006AP5963","2017JU1484"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"42 (VA)","id":"THES49806"},"free":"","case":"5","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Ewer","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Netherlands","id":"x29020"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"},{"place":{"text":"Germany","id":"x28873"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"},{"place":{"text":"Syria","id":"x29200"},"association":{"text":"decorated","id":"AAT56257"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"late 15th century","earliest":"1450-01-01","latest":"1500-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"539-1869","id":"O85313"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"Gift of Dr W.
