The Shin-Ohashi Bridge, often known simply as the Ohashi Bridge, was built in 1693. It was one of several bridges that crossed the Sumida River, which flowed southwards into Edo Bay through the centre of the city. The striking westward view onto Mount Fuji from under the massive wooden structure of the bridge is depicted largely in tones of blue, green and brown, the rendering of the sky benefitting from the grain of the cherry wood block from which it was printed.
