These were issued in three editions between 1742 and 1750.  The designs of Meissonnier had previously been published in printed sets or <i>cahiers</i> by Chereau the publisher, and were advertised in the <i>Mercure</i> in March 1734. \r\n \r\nThis plate is one of two, depicting designs for silver reliefs for the shrine of St. Aignan, bishop of Orleans.  The shrine was commissioned by the Chapter of Saint Aignan of Orleans in 1725 and completed in 1730.
