The area of the lid around the knop, the area around the base of the bowl and the area around the foot on the underside of the stand are decorated with applied stylised leaf cut-card work. The cup, cover and stand are also finely engraved with floral scrolls. The engraving of the cup terminates in zoomorphic heads and flowers, while the engraving on the stand depicts a hunting scene in which a stag and five hounds appear to emerge from the flowering scrolls. The lid and stand are edged with applied gadrooned ornament; the applied handles are scroll-shaped and cast in the form of a two-headed serpent. The foot of the cup and stand is pierced and open. The knop or finial is in the form of a rosebud. The inside of the cup has been regilded.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Silver-gilt","id":"x37998"}],"techniques":[{"text":"engraving (incising)","id":"AAT53829"},{"text":"cut-card decoration","id":"x47159"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver gilt","categories":[{"text":"Images Online","id":"THES48937"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2023NR0864","2023NR0868","2023NR0865","2023NR0869","2023NR0866","2023NR0867","2023NR0870","2023NR0871","2006AU3399"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"72A","id":"THES413998"},"free":"","case":"CA009","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"72A","id":"THES413998"},"free":"","case":"CA009","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"72A","id":"THES413998"},"free":"","case":"CA009","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"two-handled cup","id":""}],[{"text":"lid","id":""}],[{"text":"stand","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1690-1695","earliest":"1690-01-01","latest":"1695-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"M.6:1-1992","id":"O69047"},"association":"Set"},{"object":{"text":"M.6:2-1992","id":"O69047"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"M.6:3-1992","id":"O69047"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Weight","value":"475.5","unit":"g","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"total weight","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"13","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"total height","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"14","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"maximum width","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Maker's mark *I C* (i.e. initials between two mullets) below a crown, a crescent below, in a punch which follows the shape of the crown, the initials and the crescent.","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"The mark is stamped in the centre of the underside of the stand, and in the centre of the underside of the cup.
