The alphabet is embroidered in a line along the top and embroidered below are the numbers 1 - 10, a series of crown motifs and the date '1821'. Central motifs on the sampler are, from top to bottom: conventional floral cartouche containing the initials 'EE' and 'ES' supported by two flying crowned cherubs, two men in 18th century costume carrying a large bunch of grapes on a pole between them, a house with palings with a chequered red and blue pavement, and a fruit-tree. Other motifs include a vase of flowers, a large rose, trees, Adam and Eve, a peacock, flowers and crowns. The following initials appear on the sampler 'FS', 'HS', 'CS', 'SS', 'AS', 'CS', 'WS', 'HS'. The sampler has a chevron and berry border.
