Unfamiliar flora and fauna were of great interest to British botanists in the 18th and 19th centuries, and such enthusiasm gradually filtered down to the general public. Travellers often returned to Britain with foreign plants and, more commonly, paintings depicting numerous species of tropical flowers and fruits.","physicalDescription":"Densely-foliaged, rounded crown, resembling the lychee tree but distinguished by its larger leaves and rougher, more corky bark. Leaves compound, with 2-5 pairs of leaflets, each 2-6 inches long, dark green above and usually whitish-green beneath. In April small yellow flowers appear in clusters at branch ends and leaf bases.
