The top 3/4 of the design is bordered on the top and bottom by three distinct lines which are reflected in the number and thickness of the two sets of lines which bind the organic sprawling forms which meander across the composition. The sprawling vine forms protrude to simulate a diamond shape in which a distinctive and uncomplicated floral element sits at the centre. From the diamond form the vines continue across the page, replicated on each side, into forms that scroll inward on themselves. The bottom 1/4 of the composition sees a simplified cross form with radiating lines. Simple horizontal lines lay beside each side of the central cross and lead to another half cross form on each side.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Bruce James Talbert","id":"A5720"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"gouache","id":"AAT70114"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"},{"text":"Wall coverings","id":"THES48878"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2022NE7778"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"Q","shelf":"9","box":"B1"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"circa 1870s","earliest":"1865-01-01","latest":"1883-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"48.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"width","value":"36.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design by Bruce James Talbert (44 of 49) for fabrics, wallpapers, and decorative borders etc. Scottish, mid 19th century.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"MacDonald, Sally. “GOTHIC FORMS APPLIED TO FURNITURE: THE EARLY WORK OF BRUCE JAMES TALBERT.” Furniture History 23 (1987): 39–66."}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["9077:44"],"accessionNumberNum":"9077","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":null,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-23","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-30","availableToBook":false}}
