Lee Bender opened Bus Stop in a former grocery store on Kensington Church Street, next door to Biba, and went on to develop a successful chain of twelve boutiques across the UK. \r\n\r\nBender's early designs looked back to the 1940s, with accentuated shoulders and waists. This sweater, designed with a traditional Fair Isle pattern, brings a wartime look up to date.","physicalDescription":"Jumper, multi-coloured wool with v-neck and elbow-length sleeves, made by Bus Stop, \"fair isle\" design","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Bender, Lee","id":"A22899"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Bus Stop","id":"A4592"},"association":{"text":"designed for","id":"x41471"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wool yarn","id":"x30441"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Wool","categories":[{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Informal wear","id":"THES48935"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006BK8588"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES312209"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Jumper","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1969-1972","earliest":"1969-01-01","latest":"1972-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Sue Binns","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"70","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"51","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Bus Stop'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"English","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"English"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Jumper, f, multi-coloured, Bus Stop, \"fair isle\", Britain, 1960s","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.151-2000"],"accessionNumberNum":"151","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":2000,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-23","recordCreationDate":"2002-10-07","availableToBook":true}}
