This table is an early example of the fashion for incorporating porcelain plaques into the design of small-scale furniture. This taste was initiated by the <i>marchand-mercier</i> Simon-Philippe Poirier, who was the originator of the idea of using such plaques and the principle purchaser of them during the 1760's.
