The first proof of a satirical court room scene with a large group of 'ladies trying a contemptible scoundrel'. The man looks shamefacedly at the floor as a court room comprised of female judges and court artists, alongside a female jury, try him for 'a breach of promise'. Various other male figures sit in the gallery looking on with expressions of worry and surprise. The lady presumed to have been wronged by the accused is seated close to him and is being revived by smelling salts. On the wall behind the jury is written 'Prosecutrix's Boudoir', 'Tea Room', and 'Coffee Room', whilst behind the defendant is written 'Visitors Gallery' and 'The Papas and Mamas Box'. Lettered with title and artist's name, publishing details etc. ","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Cruikshank, George","id":"A8303"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Bogue","id":"A4834"},"association":{"text":"publishers","id":"AAT25574"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"printing inks","id":"x30571"}],"techniques":[{"text":"hand colouring","id":"AAT133555"},{"text":"etching","id":"AAT53241"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Etching coloured by hand","categories":[{"text":"Caricatures & Cartoons","id":"THES48983"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Feminism","id":"THES48955"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006BF9014"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"I","shelf":"92A","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}],[{"text":"drawing","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1849","earliest":"1849-01-01","latest":"1849-12-31"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"1850","earliest":"1850-01-01","latest":"1850-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Mrs Elizabeth Cruikshank","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"17","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"43","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions taken from Miller, Elizabeth. <u>Hand Coloured British Prints</u>.
