The upper third of the pot is the close fitting cover which lifted off to reveal the glass liner that held the honey.  \r\n\r\nThese pots were popular items of tableware in both silver and Sheffield plate in the early 19th century. This example is made of Sheffield plate, a thin layer of silver fused to a copper core that provided a less expensive alternative to sterling silver.
