The fragment is from the lower right of a panel and shows an angel supporting the mandorla in which a fragment of the Virgin's cloak is visible. \r\n\r\nThe panel would doubtless have included the central figure of the Virgin, surrounded by the mandorla, supported by angels, with the figure of God the Father (usually flanked by angels) at the top of the panel above a division indicating heaven. \r\n\r\nThe paint looks fresh and is presumably completely original because of its direct provenance. Gilt fleurs-de-lis and the usual daisy pattern remain on the green ground. Gilding remains on the angel's hair and on the edge of the Virgin's cloak. The mandorla is painted in a zigzag pattern in green and gilt. The angel's wings are red flecked with white. The upper background is green with horizontal white and red lines.","physicalDescription":"Alabaster panel fragment depicting the Assumption of the Virgin.
