His intention was for an elaborate mosaic composition derived from Raphael's School of Athens depicting the great artists and men from history and their muses.\r\n\r\nThis sheet shows two figure and drapery studies for the two central figures of Michelangelo and Phidias. Unfortunately the scheme was thought to be to expensive at the time and was never carried out.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design drawing for figures of Michelangelo and Phidias, for proposed scheme for Lecture Theatre, South Kensington Museum, by Sir Edward Poynter (1836-1919) produced 1869","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.1410-2001"],"accessionNumberNum":"1410","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2001,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-23","recordCreationDate":"2002-09-06","availableToBook":false}}
