It was designed by Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979), a Russian emigré who lived in Paris with her husband Robert. Both Sonia and Robert were Cubist painters. Sonia Delaunay was interested in developing associated theories in her textile designs. During the Paris Exhibition of Decorative Arts of 1925 she sold her simultané ('simultaneous') dress fabrics from a boutique that she shared with Jacques Heim. These carried geometric designs such as blocks, stripes or waves in mainly primary colours. The designs were based on theories about the combinations of different hues and the effect of bodily movement on the appearance of clothing. Sonia Delaunay also created costumes for the theatre and fashionable outfits trimmed with fur.","physicalDescription":"Dress fabric of screen-printed silk organza.
