Turkish, Yoruk, mid-19th century\r\nWARP: cream wool; Z2S; 19 threads per inch (76 per dm)\r\nWEFT: cream wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 11 knots per inch (40 per dm)\r\nPILE: wool; 11 colours: dark red, red, yellow, light yellow, green, dark blue, blue, pink, dark brown, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around two threads; 105 knots per sq. inch (1520 per sq. dm).\r\nSIDE FINISH: One cord oversewn with white cotton.\r\nEND FINISH: Lower: a narrow and incomplete band of plainweave with white woollen weft and with the remains of a fringe - groups of 6 warp threads knotted together with evidence of further cross-knotting to form a lattice (max. of 2\"/5cms remains). Upper: as lower but in better condition.\r\nDESIGN: Field: dark red ground with a central, rectangular medallion with light yellow ground outlined in blue with white-headed hooks and with an attached green ground cartouche at each end.  At the centre of the medallion is a red/blue diamond within a red/blue star over a green rectangle; the latter is within a frame of reciprocal red/decayed black trefoils which, in turn, lies on a white ground with four pairs of horns on either side and angular bars top and bottom.  In each of the corners of the medallion is a red-framed square enclosing a yellow rosette and stylised flowerheads.  Between each pair of squares, and pointing towards a cartouche, is a five sided green ground figure with pairs of red, white and blue hooks.  Each cartouche has a light yellow octagon on each wing bearing a pair of yellow and a pair of white 'C' motifs; in the centre is a red diamond, hooked and barred.  On all four sides of the field is a line of rosettes of equal size and design and in all colours.
