He is shown seated on a donkey, his hand raised in a blessing, being greeted by the crowds who lay down their garments and branches of trees, before him. \r\n\r\nAll four Gospels of the New Testament give an account of this scene. The imagery here is taken from the earliest account (late 4th century) we have of the re-enactments that took place in Jerusalem for Holy Week.
