Along with British designer, Tom Dixon, Brazier-Jones formed the group 'Creative Salvage' in the 1980s, recycling materials to create new pieces of furniture. \r\n\r\nThis sconce design has been in constant production since 1986 and this example was made in 2001. It is made of cast, moulded and hand-finished components. The laurel leaf motif is typical of the designer's work in its reference tothe ancient civilisations of Greece and Rome. Brazier-Jones also likes to experiment with light and here employs glass spheres and domed lenses to create different moods through colour and distortion.","physicalDescription":"Wall sconce with cone shaped steel body, surmounted by wreath of copper laurel leaves and set with blue glass spheres and large clear glass domed lense.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Brazier-Jones, Mark","id":"A6142"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"steel","id":"AAT133751"},{"text":"copper","id":"AAT11020"},{"text":"glass","id":"AAT10797"},{"text":"","id":""}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Steel, copper and glass, cast and hand-finished","categories":[{"text":"Furniture","id":"THES48948"}],"styles":[{"text":"Contemporary","id":"x31258"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2006AF4308"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES342070"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES342070"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sconce","id":""}],[{"text":"Wall fixing for sconce","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Hertfordshire","id":"x29452"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Hertfordshire","id":"x29452"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1986","earliest":"1986-01-01","latest":"1986-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"2001","earliest":"2001-01-01","latest":"2001-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the designer","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"76","unit":"cm","qualifier":"approx","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"Sconce"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Wall Sconce, 'Olympia Applique', by Mark Brazier-Jones, designed 1986, made 2001, England.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"'OLYMPIA APPLIQUE' WALL SCONCES\r\n\r\nDesigned by Mark Brazier-Jones, (born New Zealand 1956), 1986\r\nMade by the designer in 2001\r\nSteel, copper, glass\r\n\r\nThe sconces are made of cast, moulded and hand-finished components.
