St Barbara was one of the early martyr saints. She is described as the daughter of a rich nobleman of Asia Minor who kept her locked up in a tower and she is usually depicted with this identifying symbol. She was probably killed in the imperial persecution of Emperor Decius (249-251). Her legend does not appear in writing until the 7th century.\r\n \r\nOrigen was born in Alexandria, where he established a school of learning which remained famous throughout the Middle Ages. He was persecuted during the purges of Christians and their faith by Decius in 250 and died a few years later. A Coptic (Egyptian Christian) legend associates St Barbara with Origen.","physicalDescription":"Stained glass panel in blue, white, green, purple, brown with grisaille and yellow stain depicting St. Barbara receiving instruction from one of Origen's disciples in the mysteries of the Christian religion inscribed below \"IGNATIUS ET VIRGO BARBARA...SUA ITERSE MYSTERIA CONFERSAT\".","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"glass","id":"AAT10797"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painting","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"staining","id":"AAT53058"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stained glass","categories":[{"text":"Stained Glass","id":"THES48891"},{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2006AK9996","2006AK9990","2017KA8434"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES392142"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Panel","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Germany","id":"x28873"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1500-1599","earliest":"1500-01-01","latest":"1599-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"C.234-1928","id":"O64972"},"association":"Object"}],"creditLine":"Given by E.E.
