The figure is St Andrew, one of the original 12 Apostles. He and his brother Simon Peter, also an Apostle, were fishermen who were called by Christ to become his disciples. \r\n\r\nAccording to legend, Andrew was crucified in Greece during the reign of Nero (AD 54-68). It is known that victims were crucified on 'cross saltires', the X-shaped cross shown here. We have no evidence as to the form of execution that Andrew underwent, but he is often shown with this type of cross as his symbol or attribute.\r\n\r\nGerhard Remisch was a glass painter and head of a prolific workshop in the Rhineland in the period 1500-1600.","physicalDescription":"Panel depicting St. Andrew as Patron with a partially restored inscription below.
