According to St Luke's Gospel, after the death and resurrection of Christ, two disciples were travelling to Emmaus, near Jerusalem. They were joined by another traveller, the resurrected Christ, but they did not recognise him. The disciples invited the stranger to dine with them at Emmaus. At the point shown here, when Christ blessed the bread, broke it and then handed it to the disciples, they recognised him. He then vanished.\r\n\r\nGerhard Remisch was a glass painter and head of a prolific workshop in the Rhineland in the period 1500-1600.","physicalDescription":"Stained glass panel depicting the Supper at Emmaus.
