He was considered to be the author of the Fourth Gospel of the New Testament and the Apocalypse (The Book of Revelation).\r\n\r\nSt John was exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching the teachings of Christ. Patmos lies off the coast of Asia Minor. This panel shows him in exile, receiving a revelation from God and writing the Apocalypse.\r\n\r\nThe woman he sees in the vision is from the first part of St John's Apocalypse. He describes her as having a crown of twelve stars and the sun and the moon under her feet. Her first born is destined to rule all nations.
