At the centre a sphinx with outstretched wings hovers over 2 shaded cartouches.   The design is balanced, harmonious and composed symmetrically: characteristic of contemporary Renaissance style.  The artist behind these etchings is unknown.  It has been traditionally dated to 1520-1530, which suggests it is connected with the earliest Italian etchings by Marcantonio Raimondi.
