The samples are printed on a range of plain cottons, linens and velvets.  Each sample has a paper label with the name of the design and pattern specification.  Various ones are based on William Morris' carpet and embroidery designs with the exceptions of 'Darnley' and 'Gabriel' which are based on 19th century church embroideries.
