Only the top part of the arms survives. It shows the crest, the helmet with horns and the cross in between, and the mantling, which is the drapery flowing either side of the helmet.\r\n\r\nThe two figures represent St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist. St John the Baptist foretold the coming of Christ. Here he holds the small figure of a lamb. This is the Agnus Dei (‘lamb of God’), which represents Christ’s role as the sacrificial lamb which will atone for the sins of mankind. St John the Evangelist holds a chalice. According to legend, St John was given a chalice of poisoned wine.
