Until the advent of trains in the Victorian era playing on rocking or hobby horses were a way in which children developed riding skills. This horse was made in the late 1990s at a time when traditional toys were experiencing a popular revival. It is a very fine example with a soft head.","physicalDescription":"A hobby horse consisting of a long square stick with two small wheels at the base and the head of a horse at the other end, there are a pair of handles underneath the head. The stick, wheels and handles are stained a rich dark brown colour. The head is made of synthetic fur fabric, with grey mouth, grey and black ears, black face and white mane.
