Through her skill in the novel stipple technique, Watson rose to become ‘Engraver to the Queen’. The ‘bluestockings’ were a remarkable group of learned women who were passionate about art, literature, and politics. Published two years after Carter’s death, Watson clearly hoped to take advantage of her enduring legacy.
