The colour, chemical properties and the low solubility in organic agents indicate that the resin is likely to be shellac, which in its unbleached state, as taken from the tree, has a dark red or red-brown colour, and which, although readily soluble in alcohol when reasonably fresh, becomes insoluble with age and exposure. The red  resinous coating might have been applied for the purpose of protection or decoration or both.","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[{"text":"Jainism","id":"AAT143540"}],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"THE 23rd JINA,\r\nPARSVANATHA\r\nCopper alloy\r\nGujarat, Western India\r\n7th-8th century\r\n\r\nIM.353-1924\r\nGiven by the Royal Asiatic\r\nSociety of London\r\n","date":{"text":"25/09/2000","earliest":"2000-09-25","latest":"2000-09-25"}}],"partNumbers":["IM.353-1924"],"accessionNumberNum":"353","accessionNumberPrefix":"IM","accessionYear":1924,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"India Museum Catalogue (IS) Number","id":"THES52550"},"number":"442(IS)"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-12","recordCreationDate":"2001-11-22","availableToBook":true}}
