He is both the creator and destroyer, the wild huntsman and the teacher of the arts and sciences, the frightener of men and the friend of men. Here he is disguised as a hunter to test the prowess of Arjuna. A standing male figure holding in the right hand the hilt of a long dagger and in the left a bow. He is bearded and dressed in a kind of leaf-skirt with sash, channavira-type harness, waistband and heavy type of sacred cord. On his head he wears a kind of coronet apparently made of leaves and fronted with a broad fillet which extends to the shoulders on each side. He stands on a double-lotus pedestal which is cast in one piece with a square base, the latter with uprights for the support of an arched-surround or torana, now missing.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Hinduism","id":"THES48941"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006AT7909","2019MA8495"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES372004"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Figure","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Kerala","id":"x29830"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"15th century or 16th century","earliest":"1400-01-01","latest":"1600-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Presented by Miss Malcolm, 67 Sloane Street","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"29.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Placed in the Metal Room. 12 September, 1887.\r\n\r\nPresented by Miss Malcolm, 67 Sloane Street.
