Plywood is made from thin layers of wood, glued together to form a very strong and flexible material. The layers are arranged so the grain of one layer runs at right angle to the grain of the adjacent layer. The process was first used in chair design by Michael Thonet in Germany in 1830. Plywood was not produced on a large commercial scale until the end of the 19th century. \r\n\r\nThis chair was manufactured by H. Morris & Co. Ltd., Glasgow but little is known of the designer. It is a stacking chair, meaning that chairs of the same design can be placed on top for storage.","physicalDescription":"Stacking chair made from moulded plywood with steel rod legs","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"H.
