It probably commemorates his reception by the local Freemasons' lodge in 1773. Heinrich Gottlieb Köhler, who engraved it, was born in Silsia. He was working as a freelance engraver, designer of chandeliers and drawing master at the time that this goblet was made in the Nöstetangen glassworks in Norway. Glass production began there in 1760 under the direction of an English glass maker from Newcastle, who worked with a team of mostly German glass blowers.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Köhler, Heinrich Gottlieb","id":"A734"},"association":{"text":"engraver (inciser)","id":"AAT239410"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Nøstetangen Glassverk","id":"A10397"},"association":{"text":"makers","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"glass","id":"AAT10797"}],"techniques":[{"text":"engraving (incising)","id":"AAT53829"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Engraved glass","categories":[{"text":"ELISE","id":"THES48961"},{"text":"Images Online","id":"THES48937"},{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"}],"styles":[{"text":"EUROPE","id":"AAT20656"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2006AW3929","2006AW3928","2006AW3927","2006AW3926","2006AW3925","2018KV7635","2018KV7634","2018KY1927"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"131","id":"THES49882"},"free":"","case":"18","shelf":"2","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Goblet","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Oslo","id":"x32635"},"association":{"text":"engraved","id":"AAT53829"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Norway","id":"x29052"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1774","earliest":"1774-01-01","latest":"1774-01-01"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by D.
