The drawing came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest.\n\nHistorical significance: The drawing is testimony to the power of Fokine's ballet, which revived for the 20th century the image of the Sylph, which had dominated 19th century Romantic Ballet. Despite the sensational impace of ballets such as Scheherazade, the image of the Sylph as revived in this ballet was to be a more potent image for dance in the 20th century.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Drawing by E H R Collings after Mikhail Fokine's ballet Les Sylphides, 1913.
