It is by George Barbier, one of the most prominent French illustrators of the early 20th century. Barbier illustrates here Verlaine's poem 'L'allée', which describes a woman standing among trees:  \r\nPowdered and rouged as in the sheepcotes' day,\r\nFragile 'mid her enormous ribbon bows, \r\n18th-century fashion was one of Barbier’s favourite sources of inspiration, he is particularly known for his illustrations of Choderlos de Laclos's epistolary novel, Dangerous Liaisons (Les liaisons dangereuses) for an edition which was published in 1934.","physicalDescription":"Illustration showing a woman in 18th-century dress standing in a park with trees and looking back.
