A long white sheath skirt is topped with a sheer black lace high-necked top with cutaway shoulders and long sleeves, over which is worn a black evening waistcoat and white cropped jacket with black satin collar and wide black lace lapels.\n\nThis fashion design was done by Jean-Denis Maillart for the Paris house of Worth. He worked alongside Madame Netty Ferro as one of the chief designers at Worth in the late 1930s, creating elaborate gowns and day outfits under the supervision of Roger Worth. Their drawings often look similar, making it tricky to identify which of them drew unsigned designs. Roger was the great-grandson of Charles Frederick Worth (1825-1895), who founded Worth in 1858, and went on to become known as the first haute couture designer. Following his death, Charles was succeeded by his son Jean-Philippe Worth (1856-1925), who handed over to his son Jean-Charles, who retired in 1935 and handed over to his nephews Roger (who oversaw fashion design from 1935-52) and Maurice. The Paris house closed in 1954 following a buy-out by Paquin, who themselves closed two years later.","physicalDescription":"Late 1930s design for a woman's white three-piece skirt suit with black lace blouse and jacket lapels.
