These are comprised of the following titles, written by A. A. Milne, published by Methuen and illustrated by the artist.\n<i>When We Were Very Young\nWinnie-the-Pooh\nNow We are Six\nThe House at Pooh Corner</i>\nThey were initially lent by the artist to the museum for the travelling exhibition 'Winnie-the-Pooh' in 1969-70 and were afterwards given to the museum by Mrs Norah Shepard on behalf of her husband.  Also included in the gift were 25 proofs of illustrations, 9 letters and 4 manuscripts by the artist, A. A. Milne, and others.  At the same time Mrs Shepard gave a further 9 sheets of illustrations to works by A. A. He carried sketchbooks around with him, which he filled with studies of trees, people and interesting features to use as reference sources. For Winnie-the-Pooh, Shepard went on location to find and sketch a good example of a climbing tree and the clump of Scots pines, probably Gills Lap (shown in the video nearby).\r\nShepard planned most of his Winnie-the-Pooh compositions in large sketchbooks with perforated pages, which he tore out when he needed to trace his drawings onto another surface.
