These are comprised of the following titles, written by A. A. Milne, published by Methuen and illustrated by the artist.\n<i>When We Were Very Young\nWinnie-the-Pooh\nNow We are Six\nThe House at Pooh Corner</i>\nThey were initially lent by the artist to the museum for the travelling exhibition 'Winnie-the-Pooh' in 1969-70 and were afterwards given to the museum by Mrs Norah Shepard on behalf of her husband.  Also included in the gift were 25 proofs of illustrations, 9 letters and 4 manuscripts by the artist, A. A. Milne, and others.  At the same time Mrs Shepard gave a further 9 sheets of illustrations to works by A. A. Christopher explored the surrounding countryside, including the nearby Ashdown Forest, in all weathers. His ‘Expotitions’ began, however, in a large walnut tree in the garden: ‘Pooh’s House, really, but there was plenty of room for us both inside, and here we came to play our small, quiet, happy games together.’ At tea-time Christopher went home to tell of his adventures, which became immortalised in Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner.
