There he designed and sold stylish menswear within a somewhat staid department store setting. In one ensemble, Deighton combined this pair of blue silk tie-dyed trousers with a pink cotton shirt with eyelet front. The pale colours and a playful application of the tie-dye technique demonstrate an increasing sartorial choice available to young British men. Deighton said of his design aesthetic, 'I suppose it boils down to a question of taste and my own standards of colour, fabric and design.'","physicalDescription":"Trousers of twill weave blue tie-dyed silk.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Deighton, Gordon","id":"A5331"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk","id":"AAT14072"}],"techniques":[{"text":"tie-dye","id":"x39712"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Tie-dyed silk, twill weave","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"},{"text":"Men's clothes","id":"THES49043"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2007BN1049","2007BN1050","2006AY8614","2019MD0295","2019MD0296","2019MD0297"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES309535"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Trousers","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1968","earliest":"1968-01-01","latest":"1968-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Gordon Deighton","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Weight","value":"0.42","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"108.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Trousers of twill weave blue tie-dyed silk designed by Gordon Deighton for Simpsons of Piccadilly, Britain, 1968","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Miller, Lesley Ellis, and Ana Cabrera Lafuente, with Claire Allen-Johnstone, eds. <u>Silk: Fibre, Fabric and Fashion</u>.
