There he designed and sold stylish menswear within a somewhat staid department store setting. In one ensemble, Deighton  combined a pair of blue silk-tie-dyed trousers with this pink cotton shirt with eyelet front. The pale colours and a playful application of the tie-dye technique demonstrate an increasing sartorial choice available to young British men. Deighton said of his design aesthetic, ‘I suppose it boils down to a question of taste and my own standards of colour, fabric and design.’","physicalDescription":"Pink cotton shirt with eyelet front.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Deighton, Gordon","id":"A5331"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25198"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cotton (textile)","id":"AAT14067"}],"techniques":[{"text":"sewing","id":"AAT53658"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Cotton","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2007BN1050","2007BN1049","2006AY8614"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES309545"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shirt","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1968","earliest":"1968-01-01","latest":"1968-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Gordon Deighton","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Weight","value":"0.36","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Pink cotton shirt with eyelet front designed by Gordon Deighton for Simpsons of Piccadilly, Britain, 1968","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.880-2000"],"accessionNumberNum":"880","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":2000,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-08-13","recordCreationDate":"2001-02-26","availableToBook":true}}
