Aged 15, she fled with her mother and sibling from the Nazis, securing passage to New York in 1941. In 1947, she began working at Atelier 17 in New York, the famed printmaking studio first set up by Stanley William Hayter in Paris in 1927. Branded as 'degenerate art', the studio had also escaped Europe, moving to New York in 1940.  Haass exhibited in two Atelier 17 shows at the Laurel Gallery (1949) and the Grace Borgenicht Gallery (1951), briefly co-directing the American studio in 1951 when Hayter returned to Paris to reopen the original Atelier.  Haass later returned to Europe permanently, becoming a French citizen in 1963.  She died in Paris in 2016.","physicalDescription":"Colour etching, aquatint and engraving. Signed T.
