Tchernicheva first danced Zobeide in 1916 and performed the role to great acclaim throughout the life of the Diaghilev Ballet and the De Basil Ballets Russes in the 1930s.  \r\nThe drawing came to the Museum as part of the Cyril Beaumont Bequest.  The drawing was executed and published as plate 15 in the monograph <i>The Art of Lubov Tchernicheva</i> including a portrait by Glyn Philpot and eight full page hand-coloured illustrations two decorations and cover design by Vera Willoughby [as Vera Petrovna] together with an appreciation by Cyril W. Beaumont\", C. W. Beaumont, London, 1921.","physicalDescription":"Full length female figure seated to right on cushions, the left leg stretched straight, the right leg tucked under, the right hand in claw-like pose across the body, the head turned front with eyes looking left, wearing harem pants, fitted pink body decorated with geometric shapes and plumed turban.  The background and floor are of geometric forms with draped back curtain top right and the stylized curving cushions are in shades of red and pink.
