It was an attempt by Wolfgang Kapp to take over Germany by armed insurrection. He led a detachment of the Freikorps (right wing extremist ex-soldiers) to Berlin but could not get support from General Seeckt, head of the Reichswehr, and the revolt fizzled out. The fiasco prefigured Hitler's Munich putsch of 1923 which also failed. Germany at that time was infested with popular orators (including an as yet unknown Hitler) advocating violent revolution.","briefDescription":"`Der Volkstribune', a drawing for a satirical cartoon for the magazine Simplicissimus, by Karl Arnold, 1920.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Fritz Arnold Karl Arnold 1883-1953.
