It shows chubby, playful children, commonly known as 'putti', representing Tragedy, Comedy and Painting. They are surrounded by stage curtains. In order to reproduce the image on a metal printing plate, chalk was first applied to the back of the drawing. The drawing was then laid onto the plate and the front was incised. This left a chalk impression on the plate for the engraver to follow. The artist is Samuel de Wilde, who specialised in theatrical scenes and portraits of artists.","physicalDescription":"Design drawing for a benefit ticket or invitation card with putti portraying Tragedy, Comedy and Painting, mounted onto cream card with watercolour wash lines.
