Volume II. 17th-18th century</u>, London, 1979, p. 94.\r\n\r\nThe following is the full text of the entry.\n\n837\r\nDesign for a frieze ornamented with a trophy of arms, two putti kneeling upon dolphins, and a Maltese cross\r\nPen and ink and wash, heightened with white\r\n8 ¼ X 15 ½  (212 X 394)          CAI. 361\r\nPROVENANCE Ionides Bequest 1901 (Lugt 488)\r\nLITERATURE<i> Ionides Catalogue</i>, p.23 (as by Jean Le Pautre)\r\n\r\nTill lately ascribed to Jean Le Pautre, as in the <i>Ionides Catalogue</i>, but the style points to a Florentine artist under the influence of Pietro da Cortona. The Maltese cross suggests that the design was made for the Knights of the Order of S.
