Volume II. 17th-18th century</u>, London, 1979, p. 82.\r\n\r\nThe following is the full text of the entry.\r\n\r\n803 \r\nTwo sketches of a kneeling man with outstretched hands and another of a standing\r\nman in a cloak\r\nPen and ink\r\n7 7/8 X 7 3/8 (199 X 187)\tCAI. 369\r\nPROVENANCE Ionides Bequest 1901 (Lugt 488) \r\nLITERATURE <i>Ionides Catalogue</i>, p.19 (as anonymous); Mahoney, p.66.19\r\n\r\nA characteristic Rosa drawing, called anonymous till lately.  Mahoney suggests that the two kneeling figures are studies for the kneeling Tobit in the picture of the Archangel leaving Tobit’s house in the Musée Condé, Chantilly.  A bozzetto for the picture is illustrated in L. Salerno, <i>Salvator Rosa</i>, Florence, 1963, no. 72. The picture was one of a series of five painted in about 1662 for Carlo de Rossi, who subsequently placed them in a chapel in S. Maria in Montesanto, Rome.
