Ottley (the mount is his); Sir T. Lawrence (Lugt 2445); Ionides Bequest 1901 (Lugt 488) \r\n\r\nLITERATURE <i>Ionides Catalogue</i>, p. 12 (as by Naldini)\r\n\r\nAs Mrs Lucy Gent first noticed, it is a study for the saint in the Calling of St Matthew in the Capella Salviati in S. Marco, Florence. Not only is the general pose the same, but the fingers of the left hand are bent to hold the fold of drapery which clothes the figure in the picture. There is a variant of the drawing in the Uffizi (inv. no. 17808 F; Gernsheim photo 12011).
